Campfire
2023
119x79 cm
This work explores the campfire as a primal space for human connection, storytelling, and safety. By combining the precision of machine-stitching with the intimate, slow pace of hand-quilting and exposed knots, the piece creates a high-relief tactile surface. The use of "used clothes" adds a layer of lived history to the composition, suggesting a shared collective memory of warmth and unity against the cold.
Improvisationally machine-pieced; machine and hand-quilted; knotted and tied. Cotton, linen, and silk, utilizing a blend of repurposed garments and new textiles.
Exhibited at my solo exhibition "Improvisation in Color" in 2024.
